[B] Scope of Service:
Vendor needs to provide mental health first aid services to help adolescents and transition-age youth ages 12-21, minority and older adult populations, and faith-based communities and mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches individuals how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders to the government authority located in Columbus, OH.
- The training teaches the skills necessary to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis
- Mental health first aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbours, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help adolescents or transition-age youth, minorities, older adults, and faith-based communities experiencing mental health or addiction challenges or crisis
- The program is based on the principle that early intervention may prevent crises from becoming more severe as encouraging people to seek help early can improve recovery outcomes
- The mental health first aid training will teach participants the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of common mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, disruptive behaviour disorders, and substance use disorder
- Participants do not learn to diagnose, nor how to provide any therapy or counselling rather, participants learn to support an individual developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis by applying common mental health first aid lessons and strategies
- The mental heal first aid training must be conducted by certified mental health first aid trainers whose demographic diversity are reflective of the training audience, with consideration given to the participants profession, racial background, age, gender, sexual orientation identification, and lived experience
